2nd Series – Land Double

58 Dogs Started this Series

Test Dogs started out this series at 12:54 pm, beginning with Breeze" with handler Wayne Turczi and then "Daphne" with handler Kody Reynolds. Now that the competitors have an idea of what they might expect for this second series, our first running dog was ready to go!

Our first running dog #4 MIDDLE CREEK’S COOL ME DOWN, “Jerry,” LM, with handler Erik Thompson came to the line at 1:07 pm.

The weather during this series was sunny with a highs in the 70s and a light 7 mph wind.

3. PEPPER JACKS BLUE MACK TRUCK, “Mac,” LM, with handler Darin Quigley. They came to the line at 4:20 pm and completed the test at 4:22 pm.

58 dogs were sent from the line in this series, taking a total of 3 hours and 15 minutes, which averages out to be just over 3 minutes per dog.

L – Out behind the guns, and a quick line out to the bird.

Milli and Cole came to the line at 4:06 pm

R – Into the cover, hunted deep, and had an extended hunt, but come back with her bird.

L – Landed under the arc, hard turn right to get her bird.




58. COOLWATER’S PUT ME IN COACH, “Coach,” LM, Gwen Jones

Coach and Gwen came to the line at 4:01 pm

R – Good line, but got to the cover just missing the bird - hunted the cover and worked it out to the bird.

L – Up the hill behind the gunners, he established a hunt - expanded his hunt deep in front of the throwers - worked over towards the cover and worked it out to the bird.


57. BEAVER CREEK RETRIEVER’S BLACK ICE, “Ice,” LF, Josh Conrad

Ice and Josh came to the line at 3:57 pm

R – Got into cover and came out with her bird.

L – Left of the bushes, but a quick recovery for his bird.

Doobie and Bill came to the line at 3:53 pm

R – Good job on digging out the bird.

L – Up between the bird throwers and bushes - went deep left and then back to the cover and down to the bird.

L – Up between the gunners and bushes to hunt a bit in cover - then out to hunt deep and left - eventually working his way to the bird.

Valley and Joel came to the line at 3:39 pm

R – Very nice bird!

L –  Drove the hill to come up behind the gunners - back down to pass in front of the gunners and drive to cover - back to the bushes and over to get the bird.

Judge and Mike came to the line at 3:36 pm

R – Was recalled - then he quickly retrieved his bird.

L – Drove the hill between the gunners and the bushes - came right around the bushes to get his bird.

Hannah and Brad came to the line at 3:33 pm

R – Straight to the bird!

L – A few loops deep, into the cover and came back out with the bird!

Willis and Marc came to the line at 3:25 pm

R – Straight to the bird

L – A quick loop just short of the bushes and then he pushed out to his bird.

R – Very good mark!

L – Out between the bushes and the gunners - to the cover and deep of the bird - worked right - came out of the cover and she moved down to located her bird.

R – Straight to the bird

L – Up the hill between the gunners and the bushes - drove deep to the cover - worked his way around to grab his bird.

Atlas and Bobby came to the line at 3:12 pm

R – Entered the cover a little bit right of the bird - a couple turns to the left and he was on the bird.

L – Headed up the hill, he changed direction just before the bushes and moved over to scoop up his bird!

R – Came in under the arc - got behind the guns and worked it out to get his bird.

L – Out under the arc again, close to the guns - to the back of the bushes - came in front and then back left and deep - moved right and he located his bird.

R – Ran straight to the cover and pulled out his bird.

L – Went out wide left and down the hill, but pulled up to arrive between the gunners and the bushes - turned right around the bushes and got his bird.

33. MO’S FAT BOTTOM GIRL, “Queen,” LF, Brooks Gibson

Queen and Brooks came to the line at 2:39 pm

R – A loop left before the cover and then right along the cover, she jumped into the cover and got her bird.

L – Up the hill between the bushes and gunners - Queen pulled left for a loop, then back left to find her bird.


32. BUSTIN’ WATERS EARN HIS KEEP, “Earnie,” LM, Jerry Petraitis

Earnie and Jerry came to the line at 2:35 pm

R – Under the arc  and out into the field - went deep but came back and got his bird.

L – Directly to the fall area and the bird.

R – Short throw - came in left and turned quickly for his bird.

L – Tuff got a long throw on this one - he went out across the road, drove between the gunner and the bushes - turned left for a few steps before turning back to grab his bird.

R – Right to the bird!

L – Under the arc and between the gunners and the bushes - bent around and scooped up his bird.

Quest and Darin came to the line at 2:19 pm

R – Stepped into the cover and grabbed his bird.

L – Went up the hill under the arc, and he ran between the bushes and the gunners - zig zagged and then went right to his bird.

R – Driving into cover under the arc of the bird, she went left and came out with her pheasant.

L – Breaking down just short of the fall to make a loop and cut into the cover, she came out and over to grab her bird.

Mallard and William came to the line at 1:15 pm

R – Straight line to the bird!

L –  Into the area of the fall, arriving under the arc and left of the bushes - he quickly swings around to locate his bird.

Tiger and Cole came to the line at 1:14 pm

R – Straight to it!

L – Crossed the road, behind the guns and circled deep around the back - a few small loops and he went over to the bird.

Toivo and Ryan came to the line at 1:10 pm

R – Went deep and made a loop, came back and got his bird.

L – Out under the arc and back to cover, circled the bushes and he got it.

Right – Converging marks, had a good mark to the edge of the cover.

Second test dog to the line was Daphne with handler Kody Reynolds .... Daphne came to the line at 12:56 pm

Right – Out to the cover under the arc of the bird - a couple tight loops and she was on the bird.

Left – She entered the area left of the bushes and came around the back side to scoop up her bird.

2nd Series – Test Description

SERIES 2
Land Double


We’ve moved to the Middle Lake Field at Wood Dale Farms. It is sunny with clear skies and it’s warmed up to 70 degrees with a 7 mph North wind.

Series 2 is a land double using Rooster Peasants. The mat faces South.

Bird #1 is a dead Rooster Pheasant, thrown left to right, landing 185 yards from the running line. The bird lands between a shrubby bush and a thick band of cover. The line to this bird requires the dog to cross a gravel road, slide tight to a large patch of bushes before running down the hill to their bird. We will refer to this bird as L for Left. 

Bird #2 is a dead Rooster Pheasant, thrown right to left, landing 80 yards from the running line. We will refer to this bird as R for Right.


This test is taking approximately 2 minutes per dog to complete.

F – Ran behind the flyer guns - hunted short and stretched hunt out left and right.

R – Bird landed outside of the cover - 4 Wheeler in the field - Will get a rerun at the end

Stryker and Marc came to the line at 11:17 am

F – Out to the area - turned wide right - got deeper and quickly came back in left to the bird.

R – Wide right approach going out, came into the area right and behind the guns - Into the cover for a wide left turn, back right near the gunners. Established a very extended hunt, but he got it.



34. FATCITY’S FULL BLOWN ADDICTION, “Smack,” LM, Zach Campbell

Smack and Zach came to the line at 11:10 am

F – Out across the terraces, to the long flyer - made a nice wide right line straight to his bird!

R – Across the field into the cover under the arc, turned left and was to his bird!



33. MO’S FAT BOTTOM GIRL, “Queen,” LF, Brooks Gibson

Queen and Brooks came to the line at 11:07 am

F – Out across the terraces, made a loop short of the flyer and then right to her bird.

R – Across the field, along the cover past the evergreen, hunted the cover behind the tree and then over to get her bird.



32. BUSTIN’ WATERS EARN HIS KEEP, “Earnie,” LM, Jerry Petraitis

Earnie and Jerry came to the line at 11:05 am

F – Across the terraces, a few small loops and then right to his bird.

R – Out across the field, into the cover under the arc, made a loop and a left turn and he had his bird.



30. JOCKO-DOUBLE OR NOTHIN’, “Jocko,” LM, Delma Hazzard

Jocko and Delma came to the line at 11:00 am

F – Nice line to the area, made a couple tight loops at the end and he had his bird.

R – Out to the area, went left between the tree and cover - then he went right into the cover under the arc of the bird and came out with his bird!



29. CROSSFIRE’S NOTHING BUT NET, “Steph,” LM, Marlene Drag

Steph and Marlene came to the line at 10:57 am

F – Made a loop before he got to the bird, then he was into the fall area and onto the bird.

R – Out past it and entered into the cover, stepped out of the cover and grabbed his bird.



28. SUNSET RIDGES JUMPIN JACK FLASH, “Flash,” LM, Josh Conrad

Flash and Josh came to the line at 10:52 am

F – Out to the fall area, a look at the gunners and then he scooped up his bird.

R – Nice recovery of his pheasant.



27. QUEST FOR THE BLUE, “Quest,” LM, Darin Quigley

Quest and Darin came to the line at 10:49 am

F – Very nice!

R – The bird fell outside of the cover - he took the line under the arc and into the cover, turned left, came out and got it!



26. LA GRAN BAMBINA RUTH, “Ruth,” LF, Dennis Pugh

Ruth and Dennis came to the line at 10:47 am

F – Came in under the arc, turned right and scooped it up!

R – Landed just outside the cover - great job!



25. SEASIDE’S 8 SECOND RIDE, “Tuff,” LM, Cole Baker

Tuff and Cole came to the line at 10:42 am

F – Short bird - came in right and turned to quickly get his bird.

R – Into the cover under the arc, turned but missed it. Ran out in front of the cover for a few trips, then back into the cover and he got it!
