4th Series – Water Single

53 Dogs Started this Series

Test Dogs started out this series at 12:08 pm, beginning with "Breeze" with handler Wayne Turczi and then "Daphne" with handler Kody Reynolds. The teams got their sneak peek at what to expect for this series, and we were ready to get this series kicked off!

The first running dog #34. FATCITY’S FULL BLOWN ADDICTION, “Smack,” LM, and handler Zach Campbell came to the line at 12:24 pm.

The weather this afternoon was clear and sunny with temps getting into the low 70's and very little wind.

Here is how things turned out for the 4th Series…

Our last running dog for Series 4 was #33. MO’S FAT BOTTOM GIRL, “Queen,” LF, with handler Brooks Gibson. They came to the line at 5:00 pm and completed the test at 5:04 pm.

53 dogs were sent from the line in this series, taking a total of 4 hours and 40 minutes, which averages out to be just over 5 minutes per dog. 

We will be moving on to the 5th Series Wednesday Morning

Queen and Brooks came to the line at 5:00pm

Nice line down the terraced hill and crossed the point - an excellent line towards her bird and she got it! Nice job!


32. BUSTIN’ WATERS EARN HIS KEEP, “Earnie,” LM, Jerry Petraitis 

Earnie and Jerry came to the line at 4:54 pm

Down the terrace field and into the pond - across the pond and over the point back into the water - out at the tree for a loop around it and then back into the water and out again - hunted along the shore line past the bird fall area and then back into the water and swam over to locate his bird.

Down the terraced field and into the pond - across the pond - over the point and back into the water - angled across the water and straight to his bird.


29. CROSSFIRE’S NOTHING BUT NET, “Steph,” LM, Marlene Drag 

Steph and Marlene came to the line at 4:44 pm

Good line across the water and the point - swam across to the area  of the fall - hopped out of the water to check the tree - back into the water and scooped up his bird!

28. SUNSET RIDGES JUMPIN JACK FLASH, “Flash,” LM, Josh Conrad 

Flash and Josh came to the line at 4:40 pm

Through the water and over the point - Flash got into the next water and came ashore between the gunners and the tree - he grabbed his bird and headed back the way he came!


27. QUEST FOR THE BLUE, “Quest,” LM, Darin Quigley 

Quest and Darin came to the line 4:34

Down the terraced hill and into the pond - over the point on a great line for the bird - he went straight to it! Nice Job!


26. LA GRAN BAMBINA RUTH, “Ruth,” LF, Dennis Pugh 

Ruth and Dennis came to the line at 4:29 pm

Down the terraced hill and entered the water angling left - swam around the tip of the point and proceeded to swim towards the bird - then towards the bird boys - then she took a left looking in the lilies for her bird and she found it!

Tuff and Cole came to the line at 4:22 pm

Down the terraced field - into the pond and across the point - crossed the pond and out at the tree - up the hill and back into the water - left of the fall area but swam back to get his bird.

Sherry and Heather came to the line at 4:18 pm
Down the terraced field and into the pond - angled out across to the point - over the point and back in the water - across the pond and out at the dead tree - one loop to located her bird in the water.


24. CN BIG SHOES TO FILL, “B,” LF, Christopher Byers

B and Christopher came to the line at 4:13 pm

Nice angle down the hill - right when crossing the first cove - got across the point and headed towards the gunners - came out between the dead tree and the gunners - rounded the tree and went back into the water for the bird.

Reagan and Marc came to the line at 4:07 pm

Down the terraced hill and across the 1st cove - out on the point - crossed over and got out at the dead tree for a very short turn - and then she swam parallel to the shore to get her bird.


21. CANNON’S 90 DAY WONDER, “Ensign,” LM, Dennis Long 

Ensign and Dennis came to the line at 4:03 pm

Good line that carried him to the far water - he got out between the gunners and the tree - ran just around the tree to check the shore and find his bird.


20. SUNNY AND WIND NO DUCKS GIVEN, “Sunny,” LF, Caleb Brown 

Sunny and Caleb came to the line at 3:56 pm

Nice line through the water and over the point - carried this line all the way to the area of the bird. Stepped out of the water and plucked her bird out of the water too!

Chief and Jake came to the line at 3:52 pm

Down the terraced hill into the corner of the water - up and over the dame into the cove - crossed the point and swam to the near side of the dead tree - went around the tree to the shore - back into the pond and located his bird.


18. A FIERY STREAK IN THE MIDNIGHT SKY, “Comet,” LM, Cole Baker 

Comet and Cole came to the line at 3:46 pm

Great line down the hill and into the 1st pond - when he crossed the point he was on a great line - got out just past the dead tree and quickly got back in to the pond for his bird.

16. BRENTWOOD COVES TAILS OF TULLY, “Tully,” LF, James Hard 

Tully and James came to the line at 3:38 pm

Down across the terrace and into the pond - angled across the pond to the cross point and then back into the water - made her exit at the tree with one quick loop around the tree - she went back into the water and located her bird.



15. SKYWATCH HELL’ OR HIGH WATER, “Crockett,” LM, Ray Vreeland 

Crockett and Ray came to the line at 3:34 pm

Down across the terrace into the water - across the pond and over the point - back in the water - pushed through the lily pads and got his bird!



14. FIELD OF DREAMS WHO’S MY DADDY?, “Shaq,” LM, Brad LaFave 

Shaq and Brad came to the line at 3:28 pm

Across the water and over the point - angled across the water to get out at the base of the tree left of the guns - went around the base in and out of the water - he located his bird and headed back.

Dutton and Steve came to the line at 3:22 pm

Took the water over the point - landed at the base of the tree on the left of the gunners - went around the base of the tree to get back in the pond and scoop up his bird.


11. BTHR ONE & ONLY D-O- DOUBLE - G, “Snoop,” LM, Caleb Brown

Snoop and Caleb came to the line at 3:16 pm

Down the terrace into the 1st pond - swam toward the far corner on the right - up onto the point - down to the guns and back in the water - but then back to the gunners for a hunt on the near side - worked the hillside deep - around the tree - to the shore and back to the guns - deep up the hill and back to the pond in front of the guns - swam the shoreline and found his bird.


9. WOOD RIVER’S IZZY A SURE BETT, “Mookie,” LM, Rick Wilke

Mookie and Rick came to the line at 3:11 pm

Across and down the terrace into the 1st piece of water - hard angle right going over the point and swam past the gunners - got out between the gunners and the tree - a quick turn behind the tree and then over to the far shore - into the pond and he got the bird!

Down the terraced field and into the water - angled out across the water to the corner of the point - out along the land bridge and then back into the water to swim along the shore to her bird.

Mallard and William came to the line at 3:01 pm

Down the terraced field into the water - crossed the point and back into the water - across the pond coming out at the tree - one quick loop over to get his bird.

Very nice line  - over the point and angled through the water - not wanting to get out he checked the shore left and right before zeroing in on his bird...got it!

Good line down the terrace - into the pond on a right angle - over the point and got out right of the dead tree - went around to the back of the tree - then into the pond and he got the bird.

Mac and Darin came to the line at 2:40 pm

Over the dam and into the 1st piece of water - heading straight for the gunners - over the point and headed for the near side of the dead tree - out and around the tree for a loop and then back into the water for his bird.

Down the terraced field into the water - on to the point - angled right off the point into the water. Came out of the water behind the guns, a back and forth pass the guns and the tree and then over to her bird.

Down the terrace field into the water and headed to the corner of the point - over the point and out by the gunners out by the tree -  a quick loop near the tree and into the water around the tree to get her bird.

Through the water and over the point - she landed between the gunners and the tree - she stayed on the shoreline until she located her bird.

Coach entered the water wide left - he swam around the end of the point and over to the shore where his bird lay - he stepped out of the water to reach back in and grab his bird!

Down the terraces and into the water headed towards the base of the the point - skirted past the gunners - took a loop around the tree - in and out of the water and then back in the water for her bird.

Down the terraces and into the water - crossed the point and back in the water - got out at the guns and took a quick loop around the tree - back into the water and to his bird.

Nice line through the water and over the point - got to the far shore and did a 360 in the lily pads - came out of the water between the tree and the gunners - short move up the hill and around the tree and then on to the bird.

Through the water and across the point - he pulled up just at the right spot to grab his bird!

Down the terraces and into the water - crossed the point wide of the fall - angled into the next water towards the fall - through the lilies and right to the bird! Nice!

Down the terraces and into the water - crossed the point and back into the water - pushed through the lilies and came out on the shore line near the tree - back into the water for a quick search along the shore and she found her bird!

Good GPS in Miss Valley! She took the water - went over the point and then stayed in the water below the tree to grab her bird! Very nice!

Judge and Mike came to the line at 1:38 pm

Judge entered the water a little wide left - but corrected himself as he swam - came out right of the guns for a brief hunt behind  - back into the water and he located his bird.

Into the first pond and over the point - a nice line toward the dead tree - got out just before the tree and circled and worked the shore down towards the bird - back into the pond and got it!

In to the first pond - over the point - staying wide of the guns - got out past the bird - made 2 loops on the bank - turned toward the pond and got her bird.

Down the terraces wide into the water - across the point and back into the 2nd water - angled through the water to the base of the tree, a left turn and he was to his bird.

Down the terraces - took a corner of the water to the right and angled across to the next water over the point -  on line into the next water, pushed through the lily pads and out of the water to the left of the bird - back into the water and out again - got behind the tree and then back down into the water to grab his bird.

Nice line across the pond and point, got out and under the arc - hunted around the tree base and along the shore to grab his bird.

Good initial line, but faded a little bit right - still swam over and got his bird.

Down the terraced hill into the 1st cove - out over the point - jumped right but made a quick turn and it put him on a perfect line to the bank - turned and got his bird.

In to the 1st pond - over the point - had a great line towards the bird - got out under the arc - ran a short distance along the shore to her bird.

She took a nice line down the terraces, in to the pond, crossed the point and into the next water - through the lily pads and right to her bird.

Tonic and Sarah came to the line at 12:45 pm

Nice line down the terraces, entered the first water on line to the fall - crossed the point and back into the 2nd water - busted through the lily pads and right to his bird!



38. PIPER’S FLAWLESS EXECUTION - STEALTH, “Stealth,” LM, Johnny Armstrong

Stealth and Johnny came to the line ...

Went out and into the water, over the point - hit the shoreline under the arc - had a quick turn around the base of the tree and Stealth slipped back into the water to get his bird.

Toots and George came to the line at 12:36 pm

Very nice line out - through the water and over the point - through the water to the lily pads - exit to shore only briefly to turn and go back to her bird.

Stryker and Marc came to the line at 12:29 pm

Down the hill - across the dam into the 1st pond - over the point and off the left end - started hunting this point and hunted both side hard - went to the water lily pads but did not want to go through them - swam outside and then out by the gunners - back in to the other side of the dead tree - and back into the lily pads for the bird.

Smack and Zach came to the line at 12:24 pm

Smack went down across the dam and into the 1st pond - over the point and into the 2nd piece of water - he then squared out around the gunners and the dead tree - into the pond with the lily pads and he found his bird.

4th Series Test Dogs

The First test dog to the line was Breeze with handler Wayne Turczi .... but they had a No-Bird

Next up to the line was test dog Daphne with handler Kody Reynolds .... Daphne came to the line at 12:08 pm


She went down across the hill - Into the 1st pond - swam a line towards the dead tree - over the point with a right lean - came out twice under the arc - went around the dead tree and back into the lily pads - swam around and could not find the bird - came back out and then back into the pond and she got it!

Back to the line was test dog Breeze with handler Wayne Turczi .... Breeze came back to the line at 12:15 pm pm

Breeze went down into the 1st pond - over the point - into the 2nd cove and straight towards the lily pads - touched the bank and then immediately went back to grab the bird.

4th Series Test Description

For Test 4 we’ve moved to the Dam Field. It has warmed up to about 70 degrees, and it is sunny with a 2 mph wind.

The mat sits on top of a hill, facing North West and overlooking a cluster of ponds.


SERIES 4
Water Single

The gun station is positioned 241 yards from the line. A hen mallard is thrown from right to left, where it lands a few feet off shore in the lily pads. The line to this bird requires the dog to angle down the hill, past a small pond on their right and into the big pond. The dog must then angle across a prominent point and push down the shoreline to the bird.

This test is taking approximately 5 minutes per dog to complete.

3rd Series – Land Double with a Duck Flyer

Test Dogs started out this series at 7:34 am, beginning with "Daphne" and handler Kody Reynolds and then "Breeze" with handler Wayne Turczi. This gave competitors a good look at what to expect for this third series. Next up, our first running dog was ready to go!

The first running dog #19 ROCKY CREEK’S WAR CHIEF OF THE BAYOU TECHE, “Chief,” LM, with handle Jake Cawthon came to the line at 7:54 am.

12. RED SQUADS ROCKET QUEEN, “Bindi,” LF, Cole Baker

Bindi and Cole came to the line at 11:14 am

F – Quick angle across the road, came in under the arc, quickly went back and forth for a few passes behind the guns and then up the hill to her bird.

R – Across the road, down and up the hill - she arrived behind the guns, made a few passes along the tree line, turned up the hill and located her bird.

Toivo and Ryan came back to the line at 11:09 am for their rerun

F – Out across the field - wide of the fall area - he went back and forth until he located his bird.

R – Across the road, down and up the hill to the left side of the bush and went right to the bird!

11. BTHR ONE & ONLY D-O- DOUBLE - G, “Snoop,” LM, Caleb Brown

Snoop and Caleb came to the line at 11:07 am

F – Got to the fall and worked on a small area - located and scooped up his flyer!

R – Down the hill - he arrived between the gunners and the tree - made a right turn under the arc and quickly recovered to grab his bird.



10. GLEN EDINS EVERYDAY IS A HOLIDAY, “Doc,” LM, Steven Goetze

Doc and Steven came to the line at 11:02 am

F – Entered the area under the arc - hunted deep and then made a loop right and moved into the area of the fall to located his bird.

R – Down the hill, came in right of the gunners - hunted along the tree line - worked his way up the hill and got his bird!

8. SHOOTER’S BLACK PEARL NELLIE, “Nellie,” LF, John Besgrove

Nellie and John came to the line at 10:57 am

F – Nice angle across the road, got deep, but then turned back and got the bird.

R – Across the road, down and up the hill - a quick back and forth pass along the tree line before moving on to locate the bird.

2. DRAKE’S BAY MIDNIGHT TEXAS DIVA, “Skyy,” LF, Rick Wilke

Skyy and Rick came to the line at 10:54 am

F – Angled across the road, came in under the arc and quickly back and forth, then left to the bird.

R – Across the road, down and up the hill to the left side of the bush - quickly up the hill and to the bird. Nice!

7. WATERMARKS MALLARD, “Mallard,” LM, William Hillmann

Mallard and William came to the line at 10:51 am

F – Flyer went a little deeper than the others - but he was able to work it out nicely.

R – Down the hill, he came into the area between the tree and the gunners - a quick loop and he had his bird!

6. TOMA’S TWELVE UNDER - TIGER, “Tiger,” LM, Cole Baker

Tiger and Cole came to the line at 10:46 am

F – Established a hunt deep - back under the arc he went in for a large loop behind the guns - then back up the hill and got his bird.

R – Down the hill - he arrived between the guns and the tree and hunted deep, then back around and up the hill to locate his bird.

Jerry and Erik came to the line at 10:40 am

F – Angled across the road, came in a little under the arc, make a couple loops deep and then came closer to the guns and pushed back up the hill to the bird.

R – Across the field, down and up the hill to arrive behind the guns, hunted along the tree line and then up the hill to find his bird.

3. PEPPER JACKS BLUE MACK TRUCK, “Mac,” LM, Darin Quigley

Mac and Darin came to the line at 10:36 am

F – Nice angle across the road and to his bird.

R – Ran down the hill along the tree line - made a pass deep and then came up the hill into the area and located his bird.

R – Along the tree line - hunting deep - she came back to climb the hill and got her bird!

Milli and Cole came to the line at 10:16 am

F – Into the area under the arc -  a couple quick zig zags and he moved towards the bird and got it!

R – Milli makes it look easy as she rolls down the hill coming into the area between the trees and gunners - a quick left and she had her bird.



58. COOLWATER’S PUT ME IN COACH, “Coach,” LM, Gwen Jones

Coach and Gwen came to the line at 10:04 am

F – Coach made a couple tight loops under the arc and then over to scoop up his bird!

R – Nice line to the area - he came in under the arc - made a right turn but quickly recovered to pull up the hill and get his bird.

Ice and Josh came to the line at 10:10 am

F – Across the road and field deep -  but she came back in and got her bird.

R – Across the field, down and up the hill - came in on the right side of the bush under the arc and then went right to her bird.

F – Across the road and the field - got a little deep - made a quick loop back to his bird.

Judge and Mike came to the line at 9:46 am

F – Judge ran left of the road for a good deal of the way, then squared across the road - made a couple loops and worked his way to the bird.

R – Through the keyhole in the trees and left of the tree he arrived to the fall area - turned downhill for a minute and then quickly came back up to the bird.

Hannah and Brad came to the line at 9:42 am

F – Nice angle across the road and straight to the bird.

R – Across the road, down and up the hill to the right side of the bush and then angled up the hill straight to the bird again!

Scuba and Hunter came to the line at 9:38 am

F – Angled across the road a little deep - came back and turned right to find the bird.

R – Across the road, down and up the hill to come in behind the guns - hunted deep and then went up the hill to her bird.

Smoke and Erik came to the line at 9:33 am

F – Hunted a bit - but located the bird.

R – Down the hill - corrected his line to come into the area under the arc - went deep and then proceeded to work an extended hunt before coming up with the bird.

Atlas and Bobby came to the line at 9:28 am

F – Came into the mark under the arc -  a couple quick loops deep and he worked his way left to the bird.

R – Falling down the hill, he ran along the tree line and made a couple loops right of the guns - worked his way up the hill for a couple loops - he then moved short of the bird and hunted before coming onto the bird.

F – Nice angle across the road and field - straight to his bird!

R – Across the road, down and up the hill - he came in on the right side of the bush - a quick turn left to the bird.

R – Down the hill, along the tree line, he circled the gunners and then came back up the hill to get his bird.
